“Describe him (S.A.W) to me”

How much do we know about our Nabi (S.A.W)? He sacrificed his life for us.. Can we describe him? Can we picture him in our minds? Yaumul-Jumuah is OUR special day. And how better to spend it than to learn a little about him (S.A.W)?

Who is our Rasool (S.A.W)?

A man of striking appearance. Radiant face, beautifully created. His belly wasn’t protruding nor was his head disproportionate and small. Proportionate and delicate. Finely made. A specimen of creation.  In his eyes, there was a contrast. The dark was immensely dark, the white was excessively white. His eye lashes were long and in his voice was a natural echo. His neck was elegantly long, his beard was full and thick. His eye brows were arched, but they were not joined. It was separated.. From afar, the most striking and outstanding in appearance and when he came near, the best of them and the most handsome of them in closeness. He was medium in height. Your sight didn’t have to strain to look up at him nor was he tedious to look down at him. He was a comfortable sight to look at. Not a single photograph exists of him today, yet he is the hearts and minds of millions.

When he was silent, dignity covered him and when he spoke, it was audible and clear. Almost commanding and overtaking. Such an exalted and sweet level of logic. Like when he used to speak, it was so coherently and logical, it was smooth and easy to understand. He was to the point. Not excessive and not too short. His logic, his utterances, his words were like jewels coming out of a necklace. Calculated. Polished. One after the other, it could flow magically. He (S.A.W) spoke softly, walked humbly, ate sensibly, interacted politely and sacrificed himself regularly.

He had a forgiving heart. He was pelted, stoned, beaten, ridiculed, injured, embarrassed, slapped, blamed, fought, accused, slandered, spat on, threatened, and pursued. What was his response? “Oh Allah, forgive them. Verily, they don’t know any better.”

The Prophet brought an uplifting spirit that penetrated the hearts of people. He (S.A.W) was warmhearted and friendly and occasionally, he joked with the people around him. Due to his nature, he always acted in moderation. As related by Abu Hurairah, when some of his companions said to Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W): “O Prophet Muhammad, yet, you also joke with us!” He replied: “Yes, I do. But I only tell the truth.”

Once, the Prophet (S.A.W) and Ali (R.A) were sitting together eating dates. Each had their own pile of seeds as to which when they eat, they place it there. Ali (R.A) took his pile of seeds and added it to the Prophet (S.A.W)’s, making it look like the Prophet (S.A.W) had eaten a lot. Then he turned to the Prophet (S.A.W) and told him, “Ya RasoolAllah! Look at how much you have eaten.” Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) looked at him and smiled and upon seeing no seed on Ali (R.A)’s side said, “Oh Ali! You were so hungry, you ate the seeds too?”

THIS is our Rasool (S.A.W)!

.. To be continued next week, ان شا الله

N.B: Parts of this description was taken from Sheikh Wahaj Tarin’s bayaan on our Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
