“Depict His (S.A.W)’s character simply” II

Anecdote #5:

Nabi (S.A.W) was walking with the Sahaabah (R.A), while on their way for the Eid Salaah. As they were walking, they called out the Takbeer. The streets of Madinah Munawwarah were reverberating with the words “Allahu Akbar” [Subhanallah, the atmosphere!]. They all were excited, nicely dressed, sporting their finest itr.

Along their route, Rasoolullah (S.A.W) notices a young child sitting on the side, with his face buried in his hands as he cried.

Our Rasool (S.A.W), sent as a mercy to Mankind, immediately stopped and informed His (S.A.W)’s companions to continue; that He (S.A.W) would join them shortly.

Nabi (S.A.W) went up to the child and sat next to him on the side of the street. Nabi (S.A.W) comforted him, and asked him, “Oh Young One, why are you crying?”

The youngster replied: “Today is the day of Eid. All of the young children are holding their father’s hand and going for the Eid Salaah… But my father was martyred in the Battle of Uhad. I have no father; I have no father’s hand to hold. I don’t want to go for the Eid Salaah so leave me to sit here while the rest of the world enjoys itself.”

Nabi (S.A.W) looked at the youngster, and said: “If you are crying, then Muhammad (S.A.W) will also cry; Muhammad (S.A.W) will not celebrate the day of Eid.”

Rasoolullah (S.A.W) held the child’s hand and said: “While all the children are holding the hands of their father, you will hold of Muhammad (S.A.W). And from today onwards, never let it be said that you have no father. From today onwards, Muhammad (S.A.W) is your father, and A’isha (R.A) is your mother.”

With that, Nabi (S.A.W) walked with the child all the way up to the Eid Salaah, and when Nabi (S.A.W) was giving the Khutbah, He (S.A.W) had the child sit on his thigh [or according to some narrations, the child sat on the shoulder of the Beloved Nabi of Allah (S.A.W]

Anecdote #6:

Muhammad (S.A.W) one day saw a slave grinding some grain on a grinding mill driven by hand. As he ground the grains, he cried. On seeing this, Nabi (S.A.W) became anxious. He (S.A.W) asked the slave the reason why he was weeping.

The slave replied, “I am sick. I cannot grind the grain.  My master is very cruel and he will beat me if I don’t finish my job.”  At this, Nabi (S.A.W) stepped forward and ground the rest of the grain saying, “Always call me if you have any grain to grind. I will do it for you.”

Anecdote #7:

The Sahaabah (R.A) would smile and feel good every time they came even close to Nabi (S.A.W), let alone touch his blessed hand.

They used to say that His (S.A.W)’s hand smelled “as if it had just been taken out of the perfume seller’s bag” (Muslim).

Anecdote #8:

A’isha (R.A) narrates: “Once Nabi (S.A.W) and I were on a journey. I was still thin then. Nabi (S.A.W) told the people around Him (S.A.W): “Go ahead. We will catch up.”

When we were left behind far enough He (S.A.W) told me: “Let’s race!”

We raced and I won. He (S.A.W) did not mention it again.

After some time, I gained weight. I completely forgot about this incident. During another journey He (S.A.W) did the same thing.

When they went far away, He (S.A.W) said to me, “Let’s race!”

He (S.A.W) won and laughed saying, “We are even now.”
